The Kaduna government has started disinfecting markets in the state over the coronavirus outbreak.
This is coming two days after Nasir el-Rufai, the governor, ordered a partial lock down of all markets in the state, except those selling food and drugs to curb the spread of coronavirus.
He also directed that the Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company to ensure that all markets are fumigated.
“Markets constitute a source of large gatherings. To manage this in the interim, only traders selling food and medicines are permitted to open their shops, effective from Tuesday, 24th March 2020,” el-Rufai said.
“This directive will be vigorously enforced by the security agencies and the Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company which will also ensure that all markets are fumigated.”
Photos of the disinfection process at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi (central) market was shared on the official handle of the KMDMC on Tuesday evening.
Although Nigeria has a total of 46 confirmed cases of the COVID-19, Kaduna has not recorded any case of the virus.
