Ramalan Yero, governor of Kaduna state, has congratulated Nasir el-Rufai, his opponent in Saturday’s governorship election even though INEC is yet to officially announce the winner.

The sitting governor made a call to the presumed governor-elect at 3pm on Sunday to congratulate him – a gesture el-Rufai commended when he posted a tweet from his account.

Before the brief break in the collation of results at 12 noon, el-Rufai, candidate of the All Porgressives Congress (APC), had polled 864,693 while Yero, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had scored 293,201 votes. With eight local governments yet to be announced out of 23, the incumbent had only managed to win just one local government at the time.
