The Kaduna state government has vowed to mete out corresponding punishment on perpetrators of communal clashes in order to serve as deterrent to others planning to foment trouble.

Barnabas Bantex, deputy governor of the state, gave the warning on Friday while speaking with reporters in Kafanchan.

Bantex had attended a reconciliation meeting between farmers and herdsmen.

The meeting was organised by Community Peace Partnership (CPP), a non-government organisation (NG) in collaboration with Jemaa local council.

Bantex noted that failure to dispense appropriate punishment on those behind the communal clashes was the major reason for their recurrence.

He assured the people of the state that government would do everything possible within the ambit of the law to secure their lives and property for legitimate activities to thrive.

The deputy governor said government had considered the option of disarmament to minimise the tendencies of such clashes.
