Isa Ashiru, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna in the 2023 elections, says the supreme court did not do justice in the suit challenging the election of Uba Sani as governor.

In a judgment delivered on January 19, a five-member panel of the apex court unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by Ashiru and the PDP for lacking merit.

Describing the appeal as “frivolous and vexatious”, Tijjani Abubakar, who read the lead judgment, held that the appellants had “nothing useful to ask this court”.

Ashiru was also defeated in 2019 by Nasir El-Rufai who was reelected as the governor of Kaduna.

Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Monday, the PDP candidate said he has accepted the judgment in good faith.

“The supreme court is the last point of call, they gave their judgement, but to us, it is not justice,” he said.

“But I have taken it in good faith because I have gotten to the last bus stop and there’s nothing that I can do.

“I just left the party’s office where I met stakeholders and I told them to be law-abiding.

“I told them not to be discouraged because we are in politics not for ourselves but for our state, given the opportunity. Now that this has happened, we will not be deterred.”

However, Ashiru said despite the defeat suffered, he is not quitting politics.

“In politics whoever that says he’s done, is selfish. I am in politics not because of myself but the good people of Kaduna state. I am on and I will continue,” he said.
