The Kaduna state government says it has strengthened security around the airport and Birnin Gwari road by deploying of troops of the Nigerian army in the areas.

There have been bandit attacks in these areas. Birnin Gwari road, in particular, is a flash-point of kidnapping.

According to a statement issued by the state government on Sunday, the deployment covers some tactical areas where aggressive fighting patrols are already in progress.

It said the air force will continue with the duty of securing the immediate premises of the Kaduna airport, its staff quarters and other critical aviation assets.

The development comes after a meeting between Samuel Aruwan, commissioner for internal security, and security agencies as well as the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and community leaders at Kutungare village in Igabi local government area.

“We are here to see for ourselves the ongoing aggressive fighting patrols by the newly deployed troops and police operatives in these locations,” the commissioner said.

“This will complement the Nigerian air force who is working in the immediate airport environment, while the troops and operatives cover the general area.”

Aruwan relayed the commendation of Nasir el-Rufai, the state governor, to AK Muhammad, commanding officer of 312 artillery regiment, for the troops’ effort in providing security in the area.

El-Rufai also commended the community leaders for supporting the security agencies and the government in ensuring that there is relative peace in their communities.
