Kaduna state government has announced plans to establish a social protection agency that will ensure the sustainability of programmes targeting vulnerable residents.

Nasir el-Rufai, the state governor, spoke on Tuesday during the launch of the social protection policy.

He said the new agency will ensure that the social protection programmes in the state are delivered in an “integrated, inclusive and sustainable manner that optimises resource utilisation and achieves high impact”.

“The agency will utilise an integrated social protection management information system which will serve as a data repository to ensure that the poorest of the poor are prioritised in programme planning and benefits,” he said.

“This will also ensure the effective monitoring and evaluation of programme impacts on targeted poor and vulnerable residents of the state.”

The governor added that his administration is aware of the cost of catering for the poor and that it will guarantee “minimum social protection floors for every poor and vulnerable person”.

“For this purpose, the Kaduna state government welcomes partnership with all key stakeholders, donor agencies, private individuals, NGOs, and CSOs, in the social protection space,” he said.
