Nasiru Gawuna, Kano state deputy governor, and Mutari Sule Garo, commissioner for local government, have been arrested for alleged electoral misconduct.

The duo were taken into custody on Monday morning over alleged disruption of the collation of governorship election results at Nassarawa local government area of the state.

Garo and Gawuna were reportedly rescued from aggrieved party agents and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before they were subsequently detained.

The development has led to a delay in the release of the final outcome of the state’s election.

Before their arrest, results from 43 of Kano’s 44 local government areas had been announced and Abba Yusuf, governorship candidate of the PDP, was leading Abdullahi Ganduje, incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP candidate had polled 960,004 votes while Ganduje was able to secure 953,522 votes.
