Muhammad Garba, the Kano state commissioner of information, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is spreading “mischievous lies”  in order to discredit the supplementary election in the state.

Garba was reacting to reports on the arrest of Muktar Yakasai, commissioner for special duties on Saturday.

Yakasi was allegedly arrested for leading some thugs to disrupt election at Yelwa Secondary School in Dala local government area of the state.

The PDP had also alleged that some of its agents were killed and others injured in various locations in the state.

But Garba described the report as “negative, false and disturbing,” adding that a faction of the opposition party was spreading “false rumours” since they are scared of defeat.

The commissioner said the people of Kano should “remain calm” as reports of death from violence in some polling units where also “white lies”.

“These negative, false and disturbing reports are nothing but propaganda nothing but propaganda of the Kwankwasiya movement of PDP designed and perpetrated to discredit the conduct of the re-run elections in the affected areas as they sense clear defeat,” the statement read.

“Disregard these fake news and propaganda and remain calm as the collation of results continues”.

Garba said the elections were conducted peacefully and smoothly, adding that the state government had not and will not allow any infringement of law or wrongdoing.
