Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, says he remains loyal to Rabiu Kwankwaso, ex-governor of the state.

Kwankwaso was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections. He is also regarded as national leader of the NNPP.

Yusuf spoke on Sunday while addressing 484 local government councillors, from the 44 LGAs, at the Kano government house.

The governor pledged to follow Kwankwaso’s political lead, stating that “wherever he goes politically, his supporters will follow”.

Yusuf’s remarks come amid a gale of defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with speculations that some governors may soon join the ruling party.

The governor also asked councillors to act as a link between government and the grassroots by identifying urgent community needs for swift intervention.

“You are the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots. Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and present their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act,” Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, quoted his principal as saying in a statement.

The Kano governor said the state has earmarked nearly N5 billion for ward-level projects to address classrooms, drainage, and other pressing community infrastructure issues.

Yusuf also harped on the importance of sincerity, transparency, and dedication to ensure funds are used for projects with direct impact on the people.
