Kano orders probe as two students die after ‘attack by schoolmates’

The Kano state government has ordered a full-scale investigation into the death of two students at the Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi.

Ali Haruna Makoda, the state commissioner for education, gave the directive on Wednesday in a statement signed by Bashir Baffa, the permanent secretary in the ministry.

The students, identified as Hamza Idris-Tofawa and Umar Yusuf-Dungurawa, reportedly died after an attack by fellow students who allegedly used local metal objects known as “Gwale-Gwale” as a form of punishment.

The deceased students were said to have been punished by senior students for allegedly committing an offence.
