The Kano government on Thursday announced the reopening of 26 entrepreneurship institutes allegedly closed down by the previous administration.
According to NAN, Marwan Ahmad, commissioner for works and housing, announced the reopening of the institutes at a press conference in Kano.
He said the institutes were established when Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was the governor of the state.
The commissioner said the schools were created to train youth in several skills but were shut down by the Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration.
“Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf has directed that all the 26 entrepreneurship institutes established by Sen. Kwankwaso’s administration which were abandoned by the previous administration, are hereby reopened,” the commissioner said.
“The institutes are journalism, horticulture, poultry, driving, reformatory, hospitality and tourism, animal husbandry, sports, informatics, and Corporate Security, among others.”
He added that the institutes will be optimally put to use to address the menace of drug addiction and thuggery that are serious concerns to residents of the state.
He said the governor had also ordered contractors handling 5-kilometre road projects initiated by the Kwankwaso’s administration across the 44 local government areas of the state, to resume work at the sites.
Ahmad said work has also resumed at the abandoned Jakara river project in the Kano metropolis.
Since his inauguration as Kano governor, Yusuf has been rolling back some of the policies of Ganduje, his predecessor.
The governor has embarked on the demolition of structures erected by Ganduje.
Yusuf also revoked the sale of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, allegedly sold by the previous administration, among other reversals.
