Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano state, has approved the payment of over N3 billion to register 141,175 students in the state for post-secondary examinations in 2025.

The exams include those administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).

Ibrahim Adam, the governor’s special adviser on information, spoke on Saturday.

He said Ali Haruna Makoda, the state’s commissioner for education, announced the release of the qualifying examination results for secondary school students,

Adam noted that 75 per cent of students under the Kano State Teachers Service Board and the Science and Technical Schools Board qualified for the senior school certificate examinations.

Makoda stated that the state government, under Governor Abba Yusuf, will cover the examination fees for students who achieved five credits and above in the qualifying exams.

He urged all secondary school principals and directors to inform their students of the results to facilitate the payment process.

The commissioner emphasised that these 2025 examinations are crucial for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

Adam highlighted that since assuming office in May 2023, Yusuf’s administration has consistently paid registration fees for indigent Kano students for WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS.

He further revealed that the current administration has also settled significant outstanding debts owed to WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB, which were inherited from the previous administration led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The special adviser said this initiative is part of Yusuf’s declared state of emergency on education and a concerted effort to reduce the high number of out-of-school children in Kano state.
