Karibo Wilson, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers, says he is confident that Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state, still enjoys huge support from the people.

Wilson spoke after 27 members of the Rivers assembly defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.

He added that a reliable and broad section of stakeholders in the state still stand with the governor.

“I was the face of APC in Ahoada-West but today by the grace of God, I am here present with 10 APC ward councilmen. We also have here a considerable number of LGA executives,” he said.

“Rivers people are in support of Fubara — the elders, the traditional rulers, senior political and opinion leaders, the youths, women — they are in support. We are here to support the God-chosen governor of Rivers state.”

Wilson, who is only a few days old in the PDP, condemned the decision of the 27 lawmakers, adding that their motives are anti-people.

Early on Monday morning, lawmakers who are said to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held a plenary session where a decision to cross-carpet was made.

The legislators said division within the PDP was the reason why they switched camps.
