Zainab Musa-Musawa, commissioner for women affairs in Katsina, says the government is working on plans to establish mobile courts for prosecution of gender-based violence in the state.
Speaking during an interview on Friday, Musa-Musawa said building the courts would reduce the rate of crimes in the state.
Musa-Musawa said the newly established GBV centre in the state has helped in resolving many cases of child abuse and GBV.
Dikko Radda, governor of Katsina, signed the VAPP and child protection laws in December 2023.
She said the GBV centre receives three to four cases daily, adding that the courts would create a safe environment for citizens in the state.
“We are discussing with the state high court to establish the court in the state,” NAN quoted her as saying.
“We intend to bring the crime rate down, we are going to help the victims, therefore we are also in partnership with the state’s Hisbah board.
“We are also partnering with relevant authorities, especially the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
“The establishment of the GBV centre reflects our collective determination to foster a safer environment for the citizens of the state, and ensure justice is served.
“On a daily basis, the GBV centre receives three to four cases.”
The commissioner called on stakeholders, community and religious leaders, as well as international organisations, to support the GBV centre in the state.
