Kayleigh McEnany, White House press secretary, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The development comes four days after US President Donald Trump announced that he and his wife tested positive for the virus.

McEnany disclosed her status on Monday via a post on the official Twitter handle of the White House press secretary.

McEnany said she is not experiencing any symptoms of the virus, and had previously tested negative every day since last Thursday.

“After testing negative consistently, including every day since Thursday, I tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning while experiencing no symptoms,” she said.

“No reporters, producers, or members of the press are listed as close contacts by the White House Medical Unit. Moreover, I definitely had no knowledge of Hope Hicks’ diagnosis prior to holding a White House press briefing on Thursday.

“As an essential worker, I have worked diligently to provide needed information to the American people at this time. With my recent positive test, I will begin the quarantine process and will continue working on behalf of the American People remotely.”

Hope Hicks, a close aide of Trump, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 hours before the US president announced that he had contracted the virus.
