Keeping up with Nigerian players: Uche, Ofoedu net a brace each but Balogun sees red

Chikeluba Ofoedu and Kalu Uche each scored a brace for their respective clubs at the weekend.

Leon Balogun and Taiwo Awoniyi were sent off while Kenneth Omeruo earned a yellow card in the colours of Kasimpasa.

Uche Agbo earned a booking as he featured for Standard Liege in their 3-2 win over KV Mechelen while Taiwo Awoniyi saw red in Royal Excel Mouscron’s 2-1 defeat to Lokeren.

Zulte Waregem bowed 3-2 to Anderlecht. Peter Olayinka featured for 90 minutes for the home side.

Chuba Akpom was in action for St Truiden as they shared the spoils with Sporting Charleroi.

Denis Bonaventure and Abdul Ajagun were at opposing ends when Club Brugge defeated Kortrijk 1-0 on Saturday.

Joseph Akpala was on song for Oostende who edged out Gent in a five-goal thriller. Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu were in action for Gent while Anderson Esiti watched from the bench.

Defender Elderson Echiejille played the full match for Cercle Brugge who lost 1-0 to KFCO Beerschot-Wilrijk.

Cyprus

Midfielder Nosa Igiebor impressed for Anorthosis in their 2-2 draw with AEK Larnaca.

England

Wilfred Ndidi was in the Leicester City starting line up in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth. Kelechi Iheanacho was introduced in the 90th minute.

Alex Iwobi was in action for 73 minutes as Arsenal lost 2-1 to Brighton while Victor Moses featured for Chelsea who were pipped 1-0 by Manchester City.

Victor Osimhen watched from the stands as his team, Wolfsburg, lost 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen. Leon Balogun was sent off while Anthony Ujah came off the bench in Mainz’s 0-0 draw at Hamburger SV.

India

Kalu Uche bagged a brace for Delhi Dynamos in their 2-2 draw with Pune City.

Israel

Anthony Nwakaeme could not make the Hapoel Beer Sheva team for their 1-0 win at Ironi Kiryat Shmona. His compatriot John Ogu shone in the middle of the park for Hapoel.

Italy

Orji Okonkwo was not part of the Bologna team that lost 1-0 to Spal 2013.

Morocco

Tony Edjomarigwe showed quality on the flank for Safi as the team won 2-1 against Racing Club Casablanca.

Netherlands

Willem II lost 1-0 at Heerenveen. Former PSG forward Bartholomew Ogbeche fired blanks for the visiting team.

Umar Sadiq scored the match winner with a decisive 49th-minute spot kick as NAC Breda upset Feyenoord 2-1.

Tyrone Ebuehi was in action for Ado Den Haag who suffered a 2-1 loss at Sparta Rotterdam. Fred Friday didn’t make the matchday squad of the hosts.

Russia

The trio of Aaron Samuel, Fegor Ogude and Brian Idowu featured in Amker Perm’s 0-0 draw with Zenit St Petersburg.

Ahmed Musa put on a good show as CSKA Moscow won 1-0 against Ural.

Sylvester Igboun did not make the Ufa team that drew 1-1 with Dinamo Moscow but Kehinde Fatai earned full-time action.

Scotland

Chidiebere Nwakali came off the bench in the 64th minute to play for Aberdeen who drew 1-1 with Kilmarnock.

South Africa

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi conceded two goals in Chippa United’s 2-0 loss to Cape Town City. Former Enugu Rangers skipper James Okwuosa featured for Chippa.

Spain

Leganes beat Malaga 2-0. Striker Brown Ideye came off the bench to feature for the losing side.

Ramon Azeez was absent in Lugo’s 2-1 victory over Granada.

Turkey

Chikeluba Ofoedu scored a brace for Eskisehirspor who managed a 2-2 draw at home with Adana Demirspor.

Kenneth Omeruo was booked as Kasimpasa and Osmanlispor played out a stalemate. Emem Eduok was a second half entrant for Kasimpasa. The duo of Aminu Umar and Raheem Lawal did not feature for Osmanlispor.

Chukwuma Akabueze scored a goal for Boluspor as his team humbled Ankaragucu 3-1.

Azubuike Okechukwu was booked in the 10th minute and played the entire match for Yeni Malatyaspor who pipped Konyaspor 1-0. Sincere Seth was benched.
