Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation, has inaugurated the newly constructed access road to the Sadiq Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto.
During his working visit to the state, Keyamo also laid the foundation stone for a new protocol lounge at the airport.
In a statement on Thursday, Tunde Moshood, special adviser on media and communications to the minister, said the move is part of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to modernise aviation infrastructure across the country.
Keyamo was reportedly received by Ahmed Aliyu, the governor of Sokoto, as the visit coincided with the governor’s second year in office.

“The airport is a gateway not just to Sokoto, but to the entire North-Western region. These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for enhancing passenger experience and facilitating regional development, the minister was quoted as saying.
Moshood said the event underscored the spirit of collaboration between the federal and state governments in delivering quality infrastructure that enhances air travel, safety, and passenger experience.
He said Keyamo was accompanied by Olubunmi Kuku, managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other top directors of the authority.

“The event was attended by traditional rulers, state officials, aviation stakeholders, and members of the press,” the media aide added.
Moshood said the minister’s visit reflects the federal government’s continued investment in aviation infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth, regional integration, and national pride.
