Kogi east elders congratulate new army chief, say he’s round peg in round hole

Waidi Shaibu

The Kogi East Elders Council (KEEC) has congratulated Waidi Shaibu for his appointment as the new chief of army staff (COAS).

Last Friday, President Bola Tinubu approved a major shake-up in the nation’s military leadership.

Shaibu, a native of Kogi state, replaced Olufemi Oluyede, a lieutenant general, who was elevated to the chief of defence staff (CDS) position.

Sunday Kelvin Aneke, an air vice-marshal, became air chief, while Idi Abbas, a rear admiral, is the new naval chief.

In a statement, the group expressed confidence that the new COAS would rise to the challenge of his new assignment amid the rising insecurity in the country.

KEEC described the choice of Shaibu as COAS as “a round peg in a round hole”.

The statement was signed by Godwin Ogbadu, chairman of the council, and Rakiya Momoh-Abaji, secretary-general.

“We, at the Kogi East Elders Council (KEEC), got the amazing news of your recent appointment with great delight. We congratulate you on this well-deserved appointment as the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff,” the statement reads.

“We have been following your service records and note how your hard work and dedication to service have been inspirational to many in Kogi East, specifically, Kogi State at large, and Nigeria.

“Based on your proven track record, we do not doubt that you will excel in this new position. We also hope and pray for further accomplishments for our great nation, especially at this time of rising national insecurity. Your choice for this position is indeed a round peg in a round hole.”
