The new Emir of Kano will be named on Sunday, the governor of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said.

Alhaji Ado Bayero died on Friday, after spending 50 years on the throne, and was buried same day according to Islamic rites.

The top contenders are: Ciroman Kano, Alhaji Sunusi Lamido Ado (first son of the late emir), former CBN governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and Wamban Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunsui.

Kwankwaso told the media at the government house on Saturday: “Insha Allah by tomorrow those who are responsible for the announcement of the new emir will do so.”

He declined naming the top contenders.

He had met with the four kingmakers: Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani; Sarkin Bai, Alhaji Muktari Adnan; Sarkin Dawaki mai tuta, Alhaji Bello Abubakar; and Makaman Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Sarki Ibrahim.

Kwankwaso met with them behind closed doors at the government house for several hours.
