Some aides of Kayode Alabi, deputy governor of Kwara and chairman of the technical committee on COVID-19, have contracted the coronavirus.

Alabi disclosed this on Sunday, adding that the aides had been admitted to the COVID-19 infectious centre at Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin.

He emphasised the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic and called on the people of the state to ensure strict adherence to the guidelines for preventing the spread of the virus, NAN reported.

The deputy governor also made a post on the development via his Twitter handle.

According to him, all the aides had their samples collected for testing last week, but some of them returned positive.

However, no details were given on the identities of the affected aides.

“All Staff of the Deputy Governor’s office were tested last week and sadly, some tested positive to the virus. However, most staff tested negative to the deadly covid-19 virus,” the tweet read.

The announcement comes days after Adisa Logun, chief of staff to Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara state, died of COVID-19 complications.

Logun died before the result of his COVID-19 test was released.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), out of the 311 persons confirmed positive, 168 persons have recovered while 12 patients have died in the state so far.
