Ahmed Abdulfatah, governor of Kwara state, has declared his intention to run for Kwara south senatorial district.

The governor disclosed this via his Twitter handle on Saturday.

He said the decision to contest the senatorial seat is in response to calls by his people to ensure “effective, purposeful representation”.

The tweet read: “In response to calls by my people and in keeping with my strong desire to upscale the excellent work we have done in all three zones of the state, through effective, purposeful representation, I have picked up the PDP nomination form for Kwara South Senatorial District.”

Abdulfatah, in July, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He had explained that he defected to the PDP because the APC could no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of his people.

He was first elected governor in 2011, enjoying the support of Saraki.
