Kwara monarch, six kidnapped victims escape after vigilante clash with bandits

Kamilu Salami, the Ojibara of Bayagan in the Ifelodun LGA of Kwara state, has reportedly regained his freedom from bandit captivity.

According to Arise TV, the monarch and six others escaped from their abductors after some vigilantes clashed with the bandits at the Eku Idaji forest on Monday.

On Saturday, some gunmen abducted the monarch while he was working on his farm and the six others from a neighbouring community.

The bandits allegedly demanded N150 million after making contact with the monarch’s family on Sunday and asked him to speak to his people to confirm his whereabouts.

Salami reportedly pleaded with members of his community to come to his rescue by negotiating with the bandits for his quick release.

Quoting community sources, the report said the vigilante team launched an attack on the bandits deep in the forests and engaged them in a fierce battle around the Eku Idaji area, close to Igbaja.

“Although Baale and the six other escapees are yet to arrive in the community, they have made contact with members of the community who confirmed what happened,” one of the sources was quoted as saying.
