Abdulfatah Ahmed, governor of Kwara state, on Monday laid a foundation for a new secretariat complex in the state.
Speaking at the occasion, Ahmed said the construction of the secretariat was necessary as office spaces had become insufficient for the state’s workforce.
He said the project was being funded through the state’s Infrastructural Development Fund (IFK) which pools funds for critical infrastructure projects.
“The new secretariat complex was recommended by the need to open a new vista of modernised and motivated civil service in Kwara.
“My government is aware that our ministries, department and agencies have had to cope with acute shortage of office accommodation due to our expanding civil service.”
According to Muideen Akorede, senior special assistant to the governor on media and communications, the complex cost N1.1 billion.
Ahmed said the government was funding several projects through the IFK including the Geri Alimi Diamond underpass, the dualisation of Kulende-UITH Road and Kwara State University campuses at Ekiti and Ilesha Baruba.
He said no state can achieve real development without targeting infrastructure that improves human capital development.
