Kwara offers free education to visually impaired girls at Queen Elizabeth school

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara

The Kwara state government has approved free education and immediate admission for visually impaired girls into Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin.

The initiative, announced in a statement on Thursday, September 18, 2025, offers these students free education, feeding, and accommodation.

According to Lawal Olohungbebe, the commissioner for education and human capital development, this new policy is a significant move to strengthen inclusivity and broaden access to quality education by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governor of the state.

“The government’s decision reflects a strong determination to reduce the number of out-of-school children across the state,” he said.

Olohungbebe also noted that the initiative aligns directly with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4, which advocates for inclusive and equitable quality education for everyone.

The commissioner said the decision is a bold step to ensure no child is left behind in Kwara, stating that “every child, regardless of physical challenge, deserves quality education and opportunity”.
