The Kwara government has ordered the temporary closure of schools in five local government areas of the state.

Ibraheem Abdullateef, senior special assistant to the governor on communications, confirmed this to TheCable on Wednesday.

The affected local governments include Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero.

The decision, Abdullateef said, comes on the heels of the worrisome security crisis in these parts of the state.

Abdullateef said the schools will be reopened as soon as the government receives security clearance for their operation.

“The combined security forces have started operations to restore calm and strengthen peace and safety in the affected communities,” he said.

“The situation is being monitored closely.

“As much as qualitative learning, we are invested in creating a safer environment for schoolchildren.”

On Tuesday, bandits invaded a Christ Apostolic Church in the Eruku community of Kwara’s Ekiti LGA.

The attack claimed the lives of three people, while an unspecified number of local worshipers were abducted.
