KWASU's Ilesha-Baruba campus
The management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has directed the relocation of staff and students from its Ilesha-Baruba campus to the main campus in Malete.
Saeedat Aliyu, KWASU’s director of university relations, said the decision is a precaution against rising security concerns in the region.
Aliyu, in a statement, disclosed that the university management, visited the satellite campus to inform the affected staff and students.
Students have been asked to move with only essential items as the management works on securing safer accommodation for them.

The Ilesha-Baruba campus is one of the designated satellite campuses of KWASU, located in the Baruten LGA of the state.
The evacuation came after the vice-chancellor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh visited on November 30 to assess welfare and facilities there.
It is expected to remain in effect until the security situation is stabilised and normal academic activities can safely resume.

Kwara is one of the states affected by the uptick in banditry, kidnappings, and violent crimes across parts of Nigeria in recent weeks.
In November, the state’s government ordered the closure of all schools in five local government areas as a protective measure.
Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero were affected.
The decision followed a deadly attack by gunmen on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, on November 18.

Security operations were intensified across the state, with officials citing a need to prevent armed groups from using students as shields or schools as escape routes.
On November 25, the presidency ordered a full security cordon over forests in Kwara.
The Nigerian Air Force was to conduct 24-hour aerial surveillance coordinated with ground troops to neutralise armed groups.
