The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations of violence by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The ADC alleged that its members were attacked during a meeting in Alimosho local government on Saturday.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos, formally joined the ADC at an event in Lagos on Saturday and accused the APC of sealing a venue approved for the event.

In a statement on Sunday, Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC spokesperson, described the allegations as “wild and fabricated”.

He said the claims were a propaganda stunt by “a politically irrelevant party clutching at straws to stay in the news”.

Oladejo accused Rhodes-Vivour of cooking up tales of “APC-sponsored thugs” instead of admitting that Lagosians had rejected him.

“Rhodes-Vivour is a serial contestant and serial loser whose only strength is in Twitter hashtags and noisy press statements,” he said.

The APC also dismissed ADC’s allegation that the ruling party desecrated a church, calling it “shameful and blasphemous”.

Oladejo said the party had governed Lagos for more than two decades without dragging politics into sacred places of worship.

He said ADC’s claim that a Canadian court had declared the APC a terrorist organisation is “a joke taken too far”.

According to him, the Lagos APC is focused on governance and will not be distracted by “the hallucinations of a party that cannot even win a councillorship seat”.

“We have no history of violence in Lagos state and no reason to start now,” he said.

Oladejo added that the APC remains committed to peaceful, issue-based politics and challenged ADC to provide evidence of its allegations.
