Lagos closes highway as Buhari visits Ogun today

The Lagos state government says it will be diverting traffic from the Epe-Ijebu Ode highway and Abeokuta interchange on Thursday from 7am to 4pm.

Buhari is expected to visit Ogun state today on a one-day official visit to inaugurate projects undertaken by Dapo Abiodun, the state governor.

The president will also use the opportunity to interact with stakeholders in the state and return to Abuja, same day.

In a statement, Frederic Oladeinde, Lagos commissioner of transportation, said alternative routes for the aforementioned closed routes have been mapped out.

Oladeinde asked motorists from Lagos inbound Abeokuta to use the Lagos-Sango/Abeokuta road and the Mowe-Ofada-Papalanto-Abeokuta or alternately utilise the Ijebu-Ode, Omu–Ketu, Epe Road to access their destinations.

The commissioner said traffic management personnel have been drawn from Ogun and Lagos states to manage the flow of traffic along the aforementioned routes.

“The Lagos state government has announced that traffic will be diverted from the Epe/Ijebu-Ode Highway and Abeokuta Interchange on Thursday, 13th January, 2022, from 7:00am till 4:00pm in preparation for the visit of Mr. President to Ogun state,” the statement reads.

“The Lagos state ministry of transportation, the commissioner for transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde assured that alternative routes have been mapped out while the Federal Road Safety Corps in collaboration with the Ogun State Traffic Management Authority, (TRACE) will manage Traffic flow.

“He advised motorists from Lagos inbound Abeokuta to use the Lagos-Sango/Abeokuta Road and the Mowe-Ofada-Papalanto-Abeokuta or alternately utilise the Ijebu-Ode, Omu –Ketu, Epe Road to access their destinations.

“The commissioner reaffirmed that traffic management personnel have been drawn from both States to manage the flow of traffic along the aforementioned routes.

“Oladeinde appealed for the cooperation of road users to minimise inconvenience, reduce travel time and foster safety.”
