The community development association (CDA) of First Unity Estate, Badore, Ajah, has petitioned Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, over the vandalisation of electricity equipment in the community.

In the petition signed by Kehinde Odunlami, chairman of the CDA, and other executive members, the community said the vandalised electricity-generating plant was donated by the administration of Babatunde Fashola, former governor of the state, to power street lights in the community.

The CDA said the destruction of the power assets has thrown the community into darkness and heightened insecurity.

“The Lagos State Government, during the tenure of His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), installed street lights in the community. To power these street lights, a container housing the meter generator and petrol tank was also donated and installed,” the CDA wrote.

“The container which serves as the power house for the street lights was situated on a setback close to the transformer, along Unity Drive, after careful and detailed survey of the estate by government officials.

“February this year, Mr. Rufai Ladipo representing the owner of the property behind the container serving as the power house for the street lights requested that the container be relocated. He was duly informed that the container and its contents are properties of Lagos state government and was placed there by the government and can only be removed by them or with their express permission. We also told him that we cannot identify an appropriate site for it.”

The CDA appealed to the state government to look into the matter to avoid violence in the community.
