Rotary international district 9110 has donated a sum of N2 million to support victims of the explosion in Abule Ado area of Lagos state.

The explosion which occurred on March 15 led to the loss of lives and the destruction of several cars and houses.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, had set up a N2 billion relief fund for victims of the explosion and with the state government donating N250 million to it.

He quoted Jide Akeredolu, district governor, Rotary centre in the state, as saying the move is part of the humanitarian efforts which the organisation is known for.

He said the organisation provides “succour for those who are disadvantaged by one reason or the other in the society”.

“It became expedient for the District to respond to the call by the Lagos State Government at this material time, going by the degree of humanitarian situation that suddenly occurred as a result of the inferno which devastated such a large community,  claiming lives and leaving many people wounded, homeless or stranded,” the statement read.

“This move is one of the several avenues through which Rotarians collaborate with Governments across the globe in the quest to make the world a better place.”

“There are so many issues facing humanity which call for compassion, kindness and empathy from public-spirited people who should join a platform like Rotary where over 1.2 million leaders around the world connect, brainstorm and harness resources to address the needs of their communities at local and global scales.”

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) had confirmed the death of 22 persons from the incident.
