The charge was filed at the magistrate’s court sitting in Yaba, Lagos on Friday.

ASP Vandi was brought before Adeola Olatunbosun, the chief magistrate, who remanded him in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, while Vandi, the officer at the centre of the shooting, has been suspended and is currently in detention.

VANDI REMANDED PENDING LEGAL ADVICE

During the court proceeding, Onigbanjo sought a remand order for the defendant in line with section 246 of the Administration Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.

The attorney-general argued that the remand order will give police the opportunity to conclude its investigation on the matter.

Olatunbosun granted the application and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to Babajide Martins, director of public prosecution in Lagos, for legal advice.

The case was thereafter adjourned to January 30, 2023.
