Lagos seals off Tony Rapu’s church

The Lagos state government has sealed off This Present House, a church under the leadership of Tony Rapu.

The church which is located in Lekki was sealed off for failing to adhere to building regulations.

A statement by Anifowoshe Abiola, commissioner for physical planning and urban development, said the state government would watch anyone endanger the lives and property of Lagos residents.

Abiola said the church failed to adhere “to a minimum of a 15 meter setback from the high tension wire to the property line.”

He explained that the church contravened the Lagos state regional and urban planning law 2010 by building without required title documents and requisite permit.

He also said fence of the church was standing in the right of way of freedom road.

“While government appreciates citizens’ rights to freedom of worship, the law stipulates a minimum of 15meter setback from the high tension wire to the property line,” the statement by Abiola read.

“This church neglected and has refused to comply with the Statutory Notice served, as such the State Government must protect its citizens in order to mitigate against avoidable disasters.”

He further said the state government has given a 30-day ultimatum to owners and developers of buildings without planning permit to comply with planning laws to avoid sanction.
