The Lagos state government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the second phase of maintenance works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe LGA.
The repair of the expansion joints on the inbound side of the bridge towards Lagos Island is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, August 19 to Wednesday, October 1.
According to Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos commissioner for transportation, the repairs will be carried out in phases, while alternative routes will be opened for motorists to minimise disruption.
In the traffic advisory, the commissioner said vehicles approaching the work area on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge will be diverted to one lane of the three-lane road approximately 50 metres before the construction zone and will regain full access 50 metres after the site.

“In light of the expected impact on vehicular movement along the route, the maintenance works will be executed in phases,” the advisory reads.
“Consequently, the following alternative routes have been mapped out:Traffic inbound to Oshodi/Victoria Island from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway/Lagos Toll Gate There will be free-flow traffic along this route; however, approaching the proposed work area on Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, vehicles will be diverted to one lane of the three-lane road approximately 50 metres before the work area and will regain full access 50 metres after the work zone to continue their journeys.”
He said motorists heading to Oshodi can use the Ojota Slip Road to connect to Ikorodu Road towards Anthony (near Taxi Park) to reach Oshodi.

Osiyemi said motorists driving to Victoria Island are advised to take the Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road towards Anthony (Town Planning Way), then connect to Gbagada and access the Third Mainland Bridge inbound to Lagos Island.
He also said motorists coming from Ikeja and surrounding areas are encouraged to use Maryland to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue and then take Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. They may also connect to Anthony (Taxi Park) from Ikorodu Road to reach Oshodi.
Osiyemi assured that traffic management officers will be deployed along the affected routes to ease congestion and improve traffic flow.
He urged motorists to cooperate with the traffic management measures to ensure smooth movement.
