The Lagos state Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says it has launched a 24-hour traffic control operation across the state, alongside a multi-agency crackdown on illegal structures in urban areas.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA general manager, said personnel have been deployed to critical traffic points, including Ikorodu Road, Apapa-Oshodi expressway, Lekki-Epe Corridor, and Agege Motor Road.
Bakare-Oki said the initiative, tagged “Operation ember months stability,” was introduced to improve traffic flow, enhance public safety, and enforce environmental regulations during the busy festive period.
He said the increased presence of personnel is intended to reduce congestion, discourage traffic offences, and raise safety awareness among motorists and commuters.

The LASTMA general manager said the initiative is part of a programme coordinated by Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the governor on transportation.
According to him, the programme is a multi-agency task force, involving Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Nigeria Police, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), and the Public Works Corporation.
He said the programme has led to the demolition of more than 250 illegal shanties and the removal of derelict vehicles and makeshift encampments at Apapa, Ijora, and Costain under-bridges.

“LASTMA, in collaboration with agencies like Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), LAMATA, the Nigeria Police, LAWMA, and the Public Works Corporation, conducted a sweeping clearance exercise at Apapa, Ijora, and Costain under-bridges,” he said.
He said LAMATA has been tasked with integrating the cleared spaces into the state’s mass transit infrastructure, particularly within the Ijora transport corridor, to promote organised transportation and urban renewal.
He said this comprehensive approach reflects the Lagos state government’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and a more orderly urban environment during the high-traffic festive season.
