Ayoyinka Oni, chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) Lagos chapter, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of rigging the recent LGA polls in the state.
The APC was declared the winner of all 20 LG chairmanship positions and all 37 local council development area (LCDA) chairmanship seats in the July 12 polls.
The ruling party also swept 375 councillor positions, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with only a seat.
Oni spoke during a programme by News Central television, “Inside Lagos Politics – The Fallout of the Local Government Elections”.

The programme brought together political party chairmen, stakeholders, security personnel, and analysts to dissect the controversial electoral process.
Oni described the APC as a “ruining party”.
“We don’t have a ruling party in Lagos; we have a ruining party,” he said.

He claimed that police officers were “sleeping and collecting bribes” during the elections and called for the immediate removal of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) chairman.
In response, Nelson Ekujumi, a political analyst and civil society leader, urged opponents of the APC to deepen their understanding of the electoral process and constitutional provisions.
Ekujumi said greater enlightenment is necessary to dispel misinformation and promote constructive participation in Nigeria’s democracy.
Benjamin Hundeyin, police spokesperson in Lagos, defended the conduct of the elections, stating that the exercise was 90 percent successful.
