A mob in Lagos on Wednesday descended on a suspect alleged to have kidnapped two children at Iyana-Ipaja, setting him ablaze.

An eye witness said the man was spotted on Tuesday loitering around Oshundairo Street, Iyana-Ipaja.

“This man was seen on the street wearing boxers and looking unkempt,” the eye-witness told NAN.

“We did not know he was coming back to kidnap the two children. It was one of the youths who noticed his movement around the children that raised an alarm, while the man took to his heels.”

Some policemen were at the scene, but the mob prevented them from rescuing the man.

A police officer, who spoke anonymously, said the policemen tried in vain  to prevent the mob action, but the mob hurled stones at them.

“They prevented us from gaining access to the suspect, throwing stones at us and threatening to burn our vehicle,” said the policeman.

The two, it was reported, have now been reunited with their mother.
