The Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says despite the crisis that has rocked the party in recent times, it remains the hope of Nigerians.

Segun Adewale, chairman, Lagos PDP, said this in a statement on Wednesday after the supreme court declared Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic national chairman of the party.

Adewale described the victory as a call to reconciliation towards building a formidable PDP, adding that the victory belongs to all party members.

“I have always said that despite the crisis in our party in the last 14 months, our party is all about the interest of the people,” Adewale said.

“Our party remains the hope of Nigerians and the Supreme Court today has affirmed our belief in the rule of law.

“The verdict of the Supreme Court is to me a ‘no victor, no vanquished’ situation. It is a victory for democracy and for the Nigerian people.

“The fact that this great party stood through this most difficult and challenging times with the preponderance of its members and structures across the country still intact speaks volumes of the strong ideology that binds us together as a family.”

Adewale appreciated those who remained loyal to the party during its trying times.

He said the party will readily welcome back those who defected to other parties.

“We are not part of those who moved to APDA, Labour party, or Accord. We are here at the party secretariat and await further instructions from the National Chairman,” he said.

“We are ready to accommodate those who left with the aim of building a virile opposition for the ruling party.

“Our party will now move faster and further into rescuing Nigerians from the clog of All Progressive Congress (APC) lack of focus, infighting and poor governance.

“Our party will rescue power from the misrule of APC.”
