The Lagos state police command has assured residents that the state remains calm and secure despite reports of protests in other parts of the country.
In Abuja, police used teargas to disperse activists, including those led by Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, as they gathered to commence a protest at the central business district.
Speaking with journalists on Monday during a show of force, Olohundare Jimoh, commissioner of police, said the exercise was aimed at demonstrating the command’s readiness to maintain peace and order across Lagos.
Jimoh said strategic deployments had been made to known protest hotspots including Lekki toll gate, Ojota, Maryland, and Gani Fawehinmi Park to deter any potential unrest.

“We want residents to know that they are safe and can go about their lawful businesses without fear,” he said.
“Show of Force is designed to deter troublemakers and ensure no group disrupts public peace under the guise of protests.”
The police commissioner said while protests are a democratic right, any action that disrupts public order will not be tolerated.

“We will not allow anyone to infringe on the rights of others who are going about their daily activities,” he warned.
Jimoh added that police formations across Lagos have been instructed to send situation reports every 15 minutes for real-time monitoring.
He added that so far, no unrest or traffic disruption has been reported, with key areas remaining peaceful under visible police presence.
“Lagos is safe, peaceful, and free of any form of protest. We will continue to patrol and monitor all areas to sustain the peace residents are enjoying,” Jimoh said.
