Lagos police officers respond to crimes within five minutes, says CP

Moshood Jimoh, the commissioner of police (CP) in Lagos, says response time to robbery and public order offences in the state has been cut to just five minutes.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Jimoh said the response time used to be 10 minutes but has now been reduced to five.

“Our response time to crime is less than 10 minutes. We have even reduced it further to five minutes. Once you call us, in under five minutes, we are there,” he said.

He reassured Lagos residents that the state remains secure, emphasising that police officers often arrive before criminals can harm anyone.

Jimoh said most violent crimes in Lagos are prevented through proactive policing, and prompt detection serves as a deterrent to would-be offenders.

“For any would-be suspects who want to commit crimes, if you know that once you commit the crime, you would be apprehended, then definitely you have a second thought about it,” he said.

Jimoh said state police would not solve Nigeria’s security challenges, but advocated for better funding of the force at the federal level.

“There is no doubt that state police are not the answer to our problem; proper police funding, which the Federal Government has taken upon itself, is the way forward,” he said.

Jimoh also noted improved police conduct and credited his officers with ending traffic robberies in Lagos.
