The Lagos state government on Thursday announced the reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge.

On November 19, the federal government closed down four ramps connecting the Adekunle area to the Third Mainland Bridge for “comprehensive repairs”.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos commissioner for transportation, said in a statement that the “sections of the road that were closed for the much-needed repairs have been completed”.

“We are pleased to announce that parts of the Third Mainland Bridge which were closed last month will reopen today 21st December, 2023 by 6 pm,” the statement reads.

“Following essential maintenance, the entire bridge is now fully accessible to the public, ensuring smoother connectivity and safe commuting.

“We appreciate your patience during the temporary closure and understand the inconvenience it may have caused.

“The reopening reaffirms our commitment to infrastructure upkeep and public safety. We wish you a joyful holiday season and safe travels.”

In October, the federal government commenced palliative repair of failed sections of the Third Mainland Bridge. The repairs came after many Nigerians lamented the state of the 11.8-kilometre road.
