Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, says the state has received doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the federal government.

He made this known while speaking at the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration organised by the ministry of women affairs and poverty alleviation.

Sanwo-Olu said the state government received the vaccine doses in the wee hours of Tuesday, adding that they have been kept in a safe place.

The governor said residents will soon be vaccinated in line with the guidelines laid down by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

On March 2, Nigeria received 3,924,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from COVAX.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, frontline health workers, and members of the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 were among the first batch of recipients of the vaccine.

Faisal Shuaib, executive director, NPHCDA, had subsequently said vaccines had been deployed to states.

TheCable had reported that Ogun state on Monday took delivery of the vaccine, becoming the first state in the country to receive it.
