The Lagos state government, through its ministry of environment and water resources, is set to host a forum on the Lagos green economy.

The event, themed ‘Sustainability in SME Businesses’, will take place at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, on July 23.

Korede Oluwole is the convener of the forum, while Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos commissioner for environment and water resources, and Sola Obadimu, director-general (DG) of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), are expected to participate.

The forum will feature speakers from various sectors, including Chinyere Almona, director-general of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Lovelyn Okoye, sustainability manager at 7Up Bottling Company, and Arese Onaghise, executive secretary of the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA).

Also scheduled to speak are Titilope Oguntuga, director of sustainability at IHS Towers Nigeria; Juliet Ezeani, senior business adviser at Technoserve; and Ini Abimbola, vice-president of the Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN).

Other speakers include Bankole Oloruntoba, chief executive officer of the Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre (NCIC); Paul Osho, sustainability manager at United Capital PLC; Equi Nwabudike, ESG and development strategist; Chinma George, head of renewable energy at First City Monument Bank; Temilade Olabanji, senior manager for sustainability and shared value at MTN Nigeria PLC; and Ali Saidu, vice-president of the Global Shea Alliance.

In March, the state government announced the launch of Africa’s first subnational carbon exchange and a clean cookstoves project.
