Lagos updates sex offenders register, adds four convicts to list

The Lagos state Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has published the names of four men in its sex offenders register.
According to a post on X, the convicts, Momoh Isa, Prince Tom, Ujong Ibiang and Emmanuel Gabriel, were found guilty of defilement.
While Isa, Tom and Ibiang got life sentences each, Gabriel was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.
The Lagos government commenced the publication of the details of sex offenders in March 2022.
Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, executive secretary of the DSVA, had said details that would be published for each person are the name, picture, type of offence, and the court verdict on the charges against the offender.
She said the measure is in agreement with section 42 of the domestic and sexual violence agency law (DSVA) which permits the publication of names of sex offenders in the state.
She said letters of advisory would be issued to LGAs and traditional rulers of communities where the offenders used to live.
Vivour-Adeniyi said the strategy would serve as a deterrent to others.
