Former national team coach, Willy Bazuaye, will begin his journey to eternal life on Thursday, April 23.
A service of songs at his residence on 13 Boundary road, off Ewah road, Benin, Edo state, will kick-start the four-day event in honour of the late coach who died on March 16th.
On Friday by 9am, his body will lie in state at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium which will be followed by a novelty match at the same venue. Interment will follow at Bazuaye’s residence in the evening.
There will be a social dance at Pyne primary school, Upper Mission road, Benin on Saturday, April 25th from 12 noon.
The event will come to a close with a church service at Christ Chosen Church of God on Airport road at 9am on Sunday.
As Willie Andrews, Bazuaye played for the Green Eagles at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico where Nigeria crashed out in the group stage behind Brazil, Japan, and group leaders Spain.
He served in the Nigeria Police for 19 years but achieved fame as coach of the defunct New Nigeria Bank (NNB) of Benin where he won the WAFU Cup in 1983 and 1984.
The former coach of Iwuanyanwu Nationale also won bronze as head coach of the under-23 team at the 1995 All-Africa Games in Harare, Zimbabwe, and gold with the same team – though as an assistant to Jo Bonfrere – at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, USA.
