Lasun vows to resist pressure to resign

Yusuf Lasun, deputy speaker of the federal house of representatives, says has no intention to resign his position no matter the amount of pressure from individuals or groups.

Speaking in Abuja when a delegation from Ilobu, his constituency in Osun, paid him a courtesy visit on Monday, Lasun said he was duly elected.

He said those suggesting that he should step down in order to resolve the leadership tussle in the house only wanted “to reap where they did not sow”.

“Anybody talking about Yusuf Lasun resigning only wants to cheat the Ilobu people, who have toiled all day and night, having contributed to what APC is in Nigeria today,” he said.

“When I look at that angle alone, I laugh. And I want to say this: nature itself has a way of regulating things, you cannot want to benefit from where you have not sowed.”

Lasun claimed that Ilobu remains one of the strongest holds of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country.

Earlier, Olayinka Ahmed, the group’s vice-chairman, said the visit was to express their support and solidarity in the wake of pressure from certain quarters on him to resign.

“We are here to give you our maximum support as indigenes of Ilobu,” he said.

“We do not support any call for your resignation; we know you as one of the pillars of the Action Group in those days.
Coming from our place, we see your emergence as deputy speaker as a good thing that God has done for us, and we can’t let it slip away. God has elevated you, and we are proud of it. You also know that you have many things to re-touch in the community.”

Lasun defeated Mohammed Monguno, the preferred candidate of the APC, in the June 9 election of the assembly.

His emergence and that of Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the lower chamber, is responsible for the crisis in the lower chamber.

Anybody calling for Hon. Lasun resignation as a deputy speaker should visit psychiatric hospital for mental treatment. Gbajabiamila is he not a human being like Lasun, or is there any sinister plan these groups that are calling for the latter’s resignation have for Nigerians? Pls this matter should not be treated with levity. They should tell us whether Hon. Lasun is not a law maker. Dogara/Lasun should be allowed to pilot the affairs of the House which they won via a democratic process. If Lasun agrees to step down for any law maker based on pressure that means he has reduce himself & the people that voted him into power politically.
