Ghana won the African Games women football tournament for the first time after beating Cameroon 1-0 at the Massamba Debat Stadium, Brazzaville on Friday.

Portia Boakye scored the winner two minutes from time to earn the West Africans their first ever gold medal in the history of the event.

The victory marked a double revenge for the Black Queens, who lost by a similar margin to their Cameroonian counterparts at the final of the 2011 edition in Maputo, Mozambique.

Les Lionnes also bundled out the Ghanaians in the continental qualifiers of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The left-footed strike from just inside the penalty area came moments after Cameroon goalkeeper Isabelle Mambingo had saved Agnes Aduako’s penalty.

Ghana only reached the knock-out stage after the drawing of lots separated them from group rivals, South Africa.
