LAWMA sweeper killed on third mainland bridge

A highway sweeper with the Lagos state waste management authority (LAWMA) on Wednesday lost her life when a vehicle knocked her off the Third Mainland Bridge to the ground.

According to a NAN correspondent who was at the scene of the accident, the sweeper was hit when the vehicle had a bust tyre.

The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. behind Kam Salem House, the police headquarters annex at the Obalende.

The driver of the vehicle, who was a military officer, was said to be speeding when his tyre burst and the vehicle somersaulted several times.

The victim, according to eyewitnesses, was flung into the air and thrown over the bridge to the ground.

Colleagues of the unconscious military officer took him to the nearby Military Hospital in Ikoyi in a tricycle.

The victim, whom her friends identified as Bisi, was described as a dutiful worker who loved her job with passion in spite of the meagre salary.

A lASTMA official who spoke anonymously confirmed to NAN that the owner of the Peugeot 407 car was on speed when the tyre burst.

As at the time of this report, the mangled body of the victim was covered with cellophane wrapping and cloth while her colleagues awaited their managers to arrive at the scene.
