Like Fintiri, Mutfwang rejects Wike’s expulsion from PDP, calls for unity

Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, says he does not support the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), and other leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued on Saturday, Gyang Bere, Mutfwang’s director of press and publicity, said the governor was not part of any consultation that led to the action.

Bere said the issue was neither tabled at the PDP Governors’ Forum nor discussed at the party’s national executive committee (NEC).

He added that the decision does not represent the governor’s stance on the matter.

At the ongoing PDP convention in Ibadan, the party expelled Wike; Samuel Anyanwu, its suspended national secretary; Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti; and eight others.

Others expelled include Umar Bature, Ajibade Kamarudeen, Mao Ohabunwa, Uwachukwu, George Turner, Dan Orbih, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Austin Nwachukwu and Abraham Amah.

Mutfwang said taking such a decision at a sensitive moment in the party’s history would not help efforts to address its internal disputes.

He said the PDP needs unity, honest engagement and a collective approach to reposition itself.

Like Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa, who was also at the venue, Mutfwang distanced himself from the expulsion of the FCT minister.

Earlier, after the party announced that it expelled 11 members, including Wike, Fintiri said he was not part of the decision.
