Linda Yaccarino steps down as CEO of X

Linda Yaccarino has resigned as chief executive officer (CEO) of X, the social media platform owned by US billionaire, Elon Musk.

Yaccarino, who was appointed in June 2023, announced her resignation in a post via X on Wednesday, thanking Musk for the opportunity to lead the company.

“When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company,” she wrote.

“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Yaccarino, however, did not state the reason for her resignation or whether she would be taking another role.

Under Yaccarino’s leadership, X introduced new features such as Community Notes, a crowdsourced fact-checking tool, and announced plans for X Money, a digital payment service.

Her resignation comes months after Musk announced the integration of X into xAI, his artificial intelligence firm.

Before joining X, Yaccarino was an advertising executive at NBCUniversal and once served on a US presidential council for sports and nutrition.

Musk, who remains CEO of xAI and chair of X, has not named a replacement.
