The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says Nigerians living in Dubai and the United Kingdom can now enrol for the national identity number (NIN).

Aliyu Aziz, the NIMC director general, said the success recorded in South Africa gave the commission confidence to roll out to other cities.

“The extension is in line with NIMC’s mandate to ensure that all Nigerian citizens in Nigeria and the diaspora and legal residents in Nigeria are enrolled into the National Identity Database and issued the unique National Identification Number (NIN) to applicants upon successful enrolment,” he said.

The NIN enrolment in UAE and the UK is in collaboration with the Defcon Systems Limited (DSL) and the National eAuthentication Limited (NeAL); Nigerian companies who will serve as agents for the NIMC.

The UAE programme will take off on Tuesday, March 26 at the Online Integrated Solutions DMCC office, 22nd floor, Silver Tower, cluster I Jumeirah Lake Towers Dubai, UAE while the UK programme will take off on Friday, March 29 at the Online Integrated Solutions offices as follow:

  • OIS services, 56/57 Fleet-street London EC4Y IJU, UK
  • OIS Services, St. Georges House, 6 St Georges Way, Leicester LE1 1SH, UK

Demographic and biometric data will be collected from Nigerians who make themselves available for the exercise.

According to Aliyu, the NIN would make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to be recognised as the federal government has made NIN a mandatory requirement for bank account opening, land transactions, acquisition/renewal of the international passport, driver’s license among others.

The DG said the registration exercise will be extended to other countries where Nigerians reside.

Other companies licensed as partners for the enrolment exercise are Biosec Solutions Limited, CHAMS Consortium Limited, Defcon Systems Limited, National eAuthentication Limited, Thebez Global Resources and Venn Technology Limited.
